PETALING JAYA: The tourism ministry today officially unveiled its recovery plan for the country which will see discounts and rebates being offered to tourists, and initiatives for certain “clusters” expanded in stages to boost domestic tourism.

Tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri said the recovery plan was aimed at wooing the public to book tickets or tour packages at a discounted rate.

“It is hoped that the initiatives would restore the people’s confidence to travel, fuel domestic tourism as well as maximise existing resources,” she said at the launch.

Nancy went on to say that the initiatives under the plan, including offering “discounts, vouchers and rebates”, were initially implemented on April 29, but restricted to the land transport cluster and the tourism association cluster.

She explained that for the land transport cluster, the ministry worked with KLIA Express and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to offer fare discounts between RM10 and RM15 which would benefit a total of 64,674 users.

Nancy said ticket purchases could be made either through the KLIA Express or KTM Mobile application online or through ticket machines.

For the tourism association cluster, she said various domestic travel destination packages by registered travel agents could be offered through Shopee, an online shopping platform.

“Malaysians can get RM100 discounts for every holiday package worth a minimum of RM200, starting April 29 until Oct 31 this year, with a travel period up to Dec 31.”

Nancy added that every MyKad user or holder would be eligible to redeem this discount once the purchase had been made through Shopee Pay.

She said it was estimated that a total of 14,925 Malaysians would receive this benefit, with the ministry targeting to sell RM2,985,000 worth of holiday packages.

“I call on all Malaysians to seize this golden opportunity and enjoy the great discounts being offered.”

Nancy also said three other clusters – air travel, accommodation and special interest, which include niche activities such as scuba diving and golfing – would be introduced soon. - FMT
