Unhappy passengers have reported a recent price hike for their usual Grab rides - up nearly double the rate during regular hours.
Taking to Twitter, one passenger said a ride home that normally costs around RM14 had recorded an increase of up to RM26.30.
"Metred taxi about to make a comeback. Time to lessen the demand for GrabCar.
"The usual charge for a ride back home was RM14," said the user.
Another passenger shared how a ride to work which would take around 10 minutes increased from a maximum of RM6 to RM10.
This has resulted in the daily commute to work costing almost twice as much for many using the e-hailing service.
‘Stingy’ on reward points
Aside from the hike in charge for regular hours, another passenger pointed out how Grab has become "stingy" in awarding its reward points.
"It used to be that we can redeem RM5 using paylater (payment method) with only 550 points, which was then increased to 600 points, and now 800 points.
"What's more, for the platinum level it is now three points for RM1, (I) miss the old Grab where we can get nine points for RM1," said a netizen tweeting under @twt_Raziman.
When contacted, a representative from Grab said the company is going through a "quiet period" and will be unavailable for comments until next Monday. - Mkini
