Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has criticised the mobilisation of crowds to give Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob a hero's welcome upon his return from the US.
"Unless you win the World Cup or bring home a gold medal in the Olympics... having such a welcome home party is a plain joke.
"What kind of assistants (does) our prime minister hire to do such foolish cosmetic gimmick?" she asked in a Facebook post.
Yeoh responded to a video uploaded on the prime minister's official Facebook page showing Ismail Sabri alighting from an aircraft at the Subang Air Base following his return from the US.
He was greeted by a crowd lining the sides as soon as he entered the terminal. They clapped for him and shook his hand.
Outside, he was welcomed by another crowd carrying banners that read "DSIS, our unsung hero" and "Malaysia is on the right track under DSIS leadership".
DSIS refers to "Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri". They sang songs for him and pose for photographs.
"I did not expect many people to welcome my arrival. Being able to meet with everyone made me forget my tiredness after a long journey.
"Thank you to all those present including those from the Umno leadership, students and youths from the Keluarga Malaysia who prayed for our safe return this morning," he said.
Ismail Sabri was in Washington DC to attend the US-Asean summit. - Mkini
