Nurul Izzah apologises for predicting Harapan will lose two more GEs

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has apologised for stating that Pakatan Harapan needs another two general elections before having a chance at winning.

The former PKR vice-president said she expected a worst-case scenario despite Harapan standing a good chance of returning to Putrajaya.

"Of course, we have a bright chance if the fence-sitters go out to vote. But what if they do not ?... I just narrated the worst-case scenario," she was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

"I apologise if it (what I had said) hurts anyone. But as someone who has seen the ups and downs in politics, we must always be careful and be prepared for any eventuality.

"Perhaps, that is my way, but that does not mean that I am giving up," she added.

Nurul had courted flak for predicting in an interview with Sinar Harian last month that Harapan would lose two more general elections.

She had said there were no shortcuts for Harapan, and voters needed to be convinced of the coalition's ability to rule again.

"I believe it is not easy for Harapan to win the next election, and we have to be prepared to lose two more rounds before we can see some positive impact and acceptance by the rakyat.

"I am very realistic because we need time to show people we are a different product. (Voters), including myself, are still traumatised with the betrayal that ended Harapan's 22-month administration," she said.

Nurul said 22 months were not enough for people to evaluate Harapan's performance, while BN has six decades of history. - Mkini
