Outriders for MP's son: Investigation results out soon - Hamzah

Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin said the police will shortly announce the results of an investigation into police outriders escorting the son of Baling MP Abdul Azeez Rahim as shown in a viral video clip.

Hamzah (above) said action will be taken against any police officers involved if misconduct is discovered in the probe.

“We will not allow anyone who is not on the list (of those eligible for police escort) to get such facilities, it needs to be approved by the inspector-general of police himself.

“At this time we have conducted an in-depth investigation and we will announce (the results) within one or two days,” Hamzah told reporters after attending the Royal Malaysia Police Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today.

He was responding to a question about the standard operating procedure (SOP) for police outriders after a video clip recorded by Azeez’s son, Mohamed Khairul Anwar, went viral.

“The SOP is already clear, there is no new SOP. It is clear and we have answered about this issue before in Parliament.

“So this problem does not arise. This is the problem of an individual who had committed wrongdoing by using something which should not be used by certain people,” the minister added.

Will driver face action?

On May 6, Khairul Anwar uploaded a video clip onto his Instagram depicting two police outriders escorting him as he drove a car along Jalan Bukit Gambir in George Town, Penang.

When asked if action will be taken against the individual who misused the police outrider service, Hamzah said anyone who violated the law will face consequences.

“We will have to investigate all of this before we can get confirmation. First, the officers who committed misconduct and secondly, those who broke the law,” he added.

Yesterday, the police said they will record a statement from Khairul Anwar in relation to the video.

Penang police chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said Khairul Anwar has agreed to assist in the investigations. - Mkini
