PKR polls chief assures that issues can be solved with re-election

PKR leadership election committee (JPP) head Zaliha Mustafa said her committee can invalidate election results and force re-election at the division level if necessary.

This was her response to PKR deputy presidency aspirant Rafizi Ramli after he publicly alleged that weaknesses in the election system - which uses tablet computers for in-person voting - allowed a single person to vote multiple times.

In a statement today, Zaliha (above) explained that party members can only cast their votes through tablet computers after being granted access by her committee’s staff. These staff members are not party members, she stressed.

Each of these staff members must key in their individualised passwords before granting party members access. After the votes are cast, the tablets will return to the home screen, where the staff will have to key-in the password again for the next voter.

"Only JPP staff can key in the MyKad number (of a party member). Once the MyKad number is verified, the party member will be given a digital ballot to be used for voting," she added.

Zaliha pointed out that this was among several security features in the Adil application used for voting. She did not elaborate on the other measures.

"However, I am confident there is no (voting) system made by humans that are 100 percent perfect and without any risks," she added.

PKR has been conducting its leadership election since May 13. The process will end on May 22. - Mkini
