Police have completed their investigation on Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim’s son, who earlier this month uploaded a video of himself getting escorted by two police outriders in Penang.
According to an officer close to the probe, police will submit their investigation papers (IP) to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) for further instructions.
"The investigation was carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) against Mohamed Khairul Anwar Abdul Azeez, who is the owner of the Instagram account (where the video was posted).
"Investigators have wrapped up the probe, and the IP will be referred to the DPP for further action. Any further action would depend on the DPP's instructions," the official, who declined to be named, told Malaysiakini.
Section 233 of CMA pertains to the improper use of network facilities or network service and carries the punishment of a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or a jail term not exceeding one year, or both.
Driver’s statement recorded
Earlier today, Penang police chief Shuhaily Mohd Zain reportedly told a local daily that investigators have recorded the statement of the driver involved in the incident.
On May 7, a 20-second clip was posted on Khairul Anwar’s Instagram story, which expires after 24 hours, showing him driving while being escorted by two police outriders.
In the video, an outrider appeared to stop an oncoming car about to make a turn in order to allow Khairul Anwar’s vehicle to run a red light.
The oncoming car could be seen braking abruptly to avoid crashing into the police outrider.
Shuhaily later issued a statement denying that the police outriders were acting on official police business, and said that the two officers involved were being probed for alleged misconduct. - Mkini
