PETALING JAYA: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) is in negotiations with DAP to boost their chances in the coming general election by not competing against each other, PSB president Wong Soon Koh said today.
“Discussions (with Sarawak DAP) are not for forming an alliance. The main purpose is to avoid clashing with one another,” he said.
Wong said that the decision was made after considering the party’s “big loss” to the ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), at the state elections in December.
GPS won 76 of the 82 seats in the state assembly, PSB secured four seats and DAP two seats.
“We have learned from mistakes made during the last elections. If we don’t go up against each other, we may be able to win more seats (at the parliamentary elections) and deny GPS a big win,” he said, according to an Utusan Borneo report.
He said that the first round of negotiations with Sarawak DAP had concluded, but no decision had been made. “There will possibly be a second and third round,” said Wong. “We cannot disclose anything right now because everything is still subject to discussion.” - FMT
