Rafizi claims 54k suspicious voters in upcoming PKR polls

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has alleged that the records of 54,000 party members are dubious and this group should not be allowed to vote during the upcoming party leadership election.

He told Sinar Harian that he had lodged a complaint with the party’s internal election committee on April 12.

According to Rafizi, his team had uncovered 1,500 records on the membership list which contained only a name and phone number but no further details.

“When our team tried calling some in this group, some of those responded by saying they were unaware that they were party members.

“There are also some records with inaccurate MyKad numbers,” he claimed.

Rafizi said he was satisfied with the progress of investigations by the PKR internal election committee into his complaint.

PKR’s leadership election will take place between May 13 and May 22.

Cleaning up voter list

Meanwhile, election committee head Zaliha Mustafa confirmed that the complaint by Rafizi was lodged and her committee was taking steps to clean up the voter list.

“We will ensure the integrity of the voting process and will prevent those with dubious membership records from voting,” he said.

During the PKR leadership election in 2018, similar complaints about dubious membership records were made, particularly in Sarawak.

This election will see Rafizi vying for the PKR deputy presidency yet again in a straight fight against incumbent secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. - Mkini
