Saifuddin steers clear amid Rafizi's complaint of electoral weaknesses

Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is vying for the PKR deputy president position, said he won't get involved in matters related to the central election committee (JPP).

This was amid complaints by his rival Rafizi Ramli about weaknesses in the PKR election system.

"As a candidate, I will do my work... I won't encroach on the territory of Dr Zaliha (Mustafa) and JPP," Saifuddin (above) told journalists at a Hari Raya open house in Hulu Selangor yesterday.

Zaliha heads the JPP which is overseeing the PKR electoral process.

"Whatever matters related to the election, it's best we put trust in the JPP and give them space.

"I am confident they understand their duties," Saifuddin added.

Yesterday, Rafizi lodged a formal complaint with the JPP over what he described as weaknesses in the electoral system, including the ability of people to vote multiple times on behalf of others.

Rafizi has asked for the election to be postponed pending improvements to the electoral system.

PKR divisions in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Johor, the Federal Territories and Pahang have already voted.

‘Zaliha given the mandate’

Rafizi, who is a PKR vice-president, said he chose not to be involved in the party's decision-making process as it would be unfair to those who did not have a position.

Saifuddin, who is also the party secretary-general, said the composition of the JPP and Zaliha's appointment as its chair was a collective decision.

"She was given the mandate to handle the nomination phase, the development of the system, the management of the election as well as the finalisation of the results.

"They did not start from nothing. They took into account recommendations for improvements based on past elections," he said. - Mkini
