PETALING JAYA: Several roads in downtown Kuala Lumpur were flooded just after noon today following continuous heavy rain since morning, city police said.

In a Facebook post, police said vehicles could still travel on some of the roads that were not too badly affected.

These include Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Rahmat, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Imbi towards Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Duta Mas, Jalan Kampar off Jalan Sentul, Dato Onn’ roundabout and Kampung Periuk.

Police have, however, closed roads from the Jalan Pahang roundabout and Jalan Raja Laut heading to Jalan Ipoh.

They said the waters on Jalan Ampang and Jalan Dang Wangi could not be redirected as the drains were clogged.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) shared some pictures on Twitter of rising waters along Jalan Ampang. Netizens had taken to social media to complaint about traffic congestion as a result of the flooded roads.

Earlier, the meteorological department issued a warning that thunderstorms were expected in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya and were expected to last until 1pm.

Thunderstorms were also expected in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

On April 25, several areas in Kuala Lumpur were badly affected by flash floods following a downpour.

An update by the police at 1.30pm said flood waters had receded in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Batu Bata, Kampung Periuk, Lorong Raja Mahadi and Jalan Ampang. - FMT
