Shocking revelation about the MERS999 emergency line

What can we make out of the news report that an emergency call on MERS999 made in Sabah reaches Putrajaya first before a response team in Sabah can swing into action?

It is unthinkable. Imagine if you are in Sabah and need emergency assistance – be it an ambulance or a fire engine, for example – and your SOS call goes to Putrajaya and not to an emergency manning centre in Sabah.

And then Putrajaya diverts the call back to Sabah before the appropriate emergency response team closest to the emergency situation swings into action.

I mean this is 2022. We have the world’s largest Cabinet not to mention the entourage of ministers, deputy ministers, and a huge civil service to boot.

You mean no one saw this cock-up all this while all these past decades?

And it takes the loss of lives and one courageous voice to finally blurt the truth in the open before this ridiculous problem is going to be fixed?

Will those responsible and those who have failed to act in the best interest of the nation please step out from your closet and take ownership?

Or shall we once again sweep it under the carpet with our classic warning of “don’t politicise this incident”? - FMT
