My Comments:

I have always wanted to refer to the following verse in the Quran. It applies to all human beings. It applies to all our endeavours.

 

Surah 38:27  We did not create the skies and the earth, and everything between them, in vain. Such is the thinking of those who reject. Therefore, woe to those who reject; they will suffer torments (of the fire)

Wamaa - And (we) did not

khalaqna - create

al samaa - the skies

wal-arda  - and the earth

wama baynahumaa - and what is between the two

batilan - in vain / in ignorance / in jest

thalika thannu - such is the thinking

allatheena kafaroo - of the rejectors

fawaylun lillatheena kafaroo - hence woe for the rejectors

minal naar - from the torment (fire)

So nothing has been created in vain. Everything has some purpose. The entire universe around us has purpose. You, me, the cats, dogs, pigs, the grass, poisonous snakes, poisonous plants, the sea, rivers, trees, iron, copper, gold, the stars, planets etc.

This is so basic isnt it? Of course everything has a purpose. Isnt this simple common sense? It is so basic, like telling people 'Thou shall not steal'. Or 'Thou shall not kill'

Of course everyone knows  you should not steal. Of course everyone knows you should not kill. Do you have to write it down before people can understand simple things like these? 

Sadly, yes we have to. To remind the people. Because people still kill and they still steal. And that is why every country in the world has laws that prohibit and criminalise stealing and killing. You have to keep reminding the people.

Because clever beggars can twist the meaning of stealing. Some of them have said plainly that corruption is not a crime in their understanding of crime. And they have no fixed or clearly written down criminalisation and punishment of corruption. 

So perhaps it is always timely and good to remind human beings that nothing has been created in vain. 

But what does it mean? It means exactly that - nothing has been created in vain. 

For example we have five fingers on each hand that can only bend in one direction. There is a purpose to this. You can hold a coffee cup using your fingers. You can pick up a child to feed it. You can drive a car or fly an airplane. You can plant vegetables and trees. A surgeon can use his fingers to hold scalpels and instruments to save human lives.

But if someone says that by holding your fingers and hands in a certain manner and rocking or swaying this way or that way you can alter the course of the future - well that is not the purpose of your fingers and hands. That is a deviation. 

If someone says that by placing your feet this way or that way can alter the course of the universe - again that is not the purpose of your feet and legs. That too is a deviation.  

If you insist otherwise you will suffer great disappointment and regret. Hence the torment. You will torment yourself if you believe otherwise. There will be great disappointment in life. Make good use of your hands and feet for useful purposes.
