The debate between opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak will take place at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (Matic) at 9pm on May 12.
This debate will be televised and live-streamed.
This is also the first time the duo will face each other in a public debate.
They will debate two topics. Firstly, on whether the government should assist ailing Sapura Energy Bhd. Secondly, they will debate the issue of Malaysia's future in terms of the economy, politics, and direction.
Some Sapura Energy subsidiaries were served winding-up petitions in March, prompting Najib to seek government assistance.
Najib argued that since Permodalan Nasional Bhd - a government-controlled fund - had in 2019 poured RM4 billion into Sapura Energy, efforts must be taken to save the investment or at least prevent its assets from being sold to foreigners.
For the financial year ending Jan 31, 2022, Sapura Energy posted a loss of RM8.9 billion.
After sparring with PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli over the validity of his bailout idea, Najib eventually agreed to debate Anwar on the matter.
Initially, the Universiti Malaya Student Union offered to host the debate on campus, but university authorities rejected the idea. - Mkini
