Flood management not affected by MB absence - Terengganu exco

No issue has arisen regarding the way flood management in Terengganu is handled despite the absence of Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, said a state executive councillor today.

Confirming the PAS vice-president’s whereabouts in New Zealand, State Welfare, Women Development, Family, and National Unity Committee chairperson Hanafiah Mat said he was very satisfied with all parties helping flood victims in the state.

“As the deputy chairperson of state disaster management, I am very satisfied in all departments and the temporary settlement centres.

“All the exco and people’s representatives also played a very good role,” he told Malaysiakini today.

As of this morning, more than 40,000 flood victims have been placed in 297 flood evacuation centres throughout the state of Terengganu.

Hanafiah (above), who is also the Chukai assemblyperson, confirmed that Ahmad Samsuri is indeed in Auckland and will return today.

“God willing, the menteri besar will return from New Zealand today, but at what time, it is not certain,” he said.

Hanafiah also said the situation in Terengganu is now under control.

“So, there is no question of the absence of the menteri besar in Terengganu because all flood matters here are under control,” he said.

Last night, former Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam claimed Ahmad Samsuri was absent abroad even though Terengganu is being hit by floods.

He also claimed to have evidence that showed Ahmad Samsuri was on holiday with his family in Auckland.

According to Lokman, Ahmad Samsuri and his wife left for Auckland on Dec 11 and are only expected to return on Dec 22 (tomorrow).

Speculations about Ahmad Samsuri’s whereabouts intensified as he was not seen when PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang visited several flood evacuation centres in Terengganu yesterday.

The former university lecturer was also not seen when Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi visited the flood victims in the state on the same day. - Mkini
