Annuar claims PAS is 'wooing' him, tells them to wait

Former Umno leader Annuar Musa claimed that PAS is already “wooing” him after his “divorce” from Umno on Thursday.

While emphasising that he accepted Umno’s decision and believes it was for the good of the party, he said PAS had also invited him to speak at the latter’s gatherings.

However, Annuar (above) hinted that he was reluctant to accept the invitation because it came too soon after he parted ways with his former party.

“Tonight, I was invited to speak at a PAS rally, but I answered plainly: (I’ve) just been ‘divorced’ for three days and (they’re) already ‘proposing’.

“The Malacca PAS Women chief said, if your house (got) burnt, come stay with them. Wait first… let the iddah pass first because (if a woman’s) husband dies, there is the (iddah) period,” he added.

In Islam, iddah refers to a woman’s waiting period after divorce or being widowed, during which she may not remarry.

The “burning house” meanwhile, was in reference to Annuar’s earlier statement where he compared Umno to a house on fire.

Annuar had led the Ketereh Umno division for 35 years before getting sacked on Thursday.

He made his statement today during a function with the division’s leaders today, which was broadcasted live on his Facebook page.

In his speech, Annuar described his sacking as a signal from Umno’s leadership to outspoken party members not to challenge them.

Despite this, the former Umno secretary-general said he held no grudge towards the party leadership.

“(Umno) sacked me to frighten the others. If (Umno) sacked me so others would be spared, that is fine… I accept,” he said.

He reiterated several times that he hopes other Umno leaders who are uncomfortable with the party’s decision to support the Pakatan Harapan-led government would not suffer his fate.

No grudges

Among the leaders mentioned by Annuar were Umno vice president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein and former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

Annuar also claimed the decision to sack him was made by the Umno supreme council - without referring to the party’s disciplinary committee beforehand.

Annuar believes his sacking was due to his criticism of the party’s top brass but stressed he does not begrudge Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, because the conflict between them was only a difference of opinion.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi

“I was sacked without going through the disciplinary committee, meaning my crime is very severe, more so than what Anwar Ibrahim did before.

“My crime is more severe than Muhyiddin (Yassin’s). The judge meted out the sentence without a hearing.

“Coincidentally, I have been driving into the wrong lane. I opted (to propose) the president should step down for others to take over so we (Umno) can become strong again.

“Regrets? No, I have no regrets because I like to speak the truth. It is nothing personal, no hatred, just a proposal (for the president to resign),” he said. - Mkini
