PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expects to announce his Cabinet in the next “two or three days”.
The list of names, he said, is almost completed.
“We have to quickly solve the problem (discussion) with all component parties as we need to immediately form the Cabinet so that it is approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and can be announced within the next two or three days,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page.
“At the moment, everything is almost ready and I will provide updates.”
Yesterday, FMT reported that there would be two deputy prime ministers in Anwar’s Cabinet, which would comprise 25 members.
A source in the know said the deputy prime ministers would be from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Barisan Nasional (BN), specifically Umno.
PKR, Umno, DAP and GPS are likely to be given the most ministerial posts. Warisan, Amanah and Upko are also slated to be included in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman’s Cabinet.
Anwar said that as prime minister, he has more responsibility than others.
“(Seeing that I) asked to be prime minister, I have to work more.
“I can’t be a prime minister who works less than others. That’s why I have to put in the effort,” he said.
Last Monday, Anwar said the newly formed unity government’s Cabinet would be announced as soon as possible after listening to views from all the stakeholders.
He said forming the Cabinet in the aftermath of the general election required discussions with many stakeholders as numerous parties were involved.
The PH chairman also said negotiations were taking time, given that this Cabinet would be smaller than previous administrations.
Anwar’s unity government is made up of BN and the ruling coalitions in Sabah and Sarawak – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and GPS. It also has the support of MPs from Muda, Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, and two independents. - FMT
