Be strong opposition, break my personal record, Rafizi tells PN

 

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has challenged PN to expose any abuse of power or corruption by Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has challenged Perikatan Nasional, as the opposition, to beat his personal record of being locked up and sued for speaking up against corruption and abuse of power.

Rafizi encouraged PN to be a strong opposition and expose any corruption and abuse of power by Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

“If there’s any abuse of power or corruption on our part, expose them like I did before. If possible, to the point of breaking my record of being put into lockup multiple times and sued 16 times. Better if you can beat that,” he said in a video on TikTok.

He said those who were unhappy with the formation of Anwar’s unity government should ask PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang about the decision to turn down the King’s proposal to form a unity government with Pakatan Harapan.

“Isn’t the act of turning down the King’s proposal going against what PN has been campaigning, in wanting to safeguard the Malays and their institutions?” he said.

Rafizi said they should ask Muhyiddin and Hadi why they would want to form a government by “stealing” MPs from other parties when the people have so clearly rejected “political traitors”, and have rejected almost all the MPs who were involved in the Sheraton Move.

He also urged them to ask what was the use of passing the anti-hopping law if it were to be discarded to pursue personal desires to become the government of the day.

“Does Muhyiddin not realise that if he continued to play the game like he did in the Sheraton Move, he may well become the shortest-serving prime minister?” he said.

Yesterday, FMT reported that Rafizi, who was one of PH’s negotiators in forming the unity government, said the negotiations were not “pretty”.

“But it was too noisy outside,” he said in a message on Twitter, adding that he will give his personal opinion on the unity government soon.

The general election (GE15) on Nov 19 led to a hung Parliament. A few days later, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong consented to Anwar’s appointment as prime minister following discussions with the Malay rulers.

The PKR president now leads a unity government comprising PH, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Anwar also has the support of MPs from Muda, Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, and two independents which, he said, gives his government a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat. - FMT
