PETALING JAYA: The body of a girl has been found at the site of the Batang Kali landslide, say police.
According to a Bernama report, the body was found at 11.15pm.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Suffian Abdullah said the girl was believed to be between five and seven years old.The girl’s body has been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem.
“I can confirm that the body of a girl has been found,” he said briefly to Bernama.
Suffian said further details regarding the discovery of the girl’s body would be made at a press conference later.
Another eight people who were at the three campsites when the landslide hit last Friday are still missing.
With the discovery of the body, the death toll from the landslide now stands at 25. A total of 61 people survived the landslide, which took place at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Raya, near Batang Kali.
Search and rescue (SAR) operations are continuing.
Meanwhile, the Genting-Batang Kali route where the landslide occurred will be closed for a year to allow for repairs and assessments to be carried out.
According to a report by The Star works ministry secretary-general Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman also said in-depth studies at ground-zero would be carried out after SAR operations have been completed. - FMT
