Covid-19 (Dec 8): 1,616 new cases, 4 deaths

 

The Health Ministry said 1,616 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 5,006,855.

Active cases currently stood at 21,473, down -20.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Penang (130)

Kedah (104)

Malacca (96)

Negeri Sembilan (83)

Sabah (82)

Perak (77)

Putrajaya (75)

Kelantan (51)

Pahang (44)

Another four deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 1 was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 6.7 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 7.6, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,742 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The state with the highest death was Perak (2), followed by Selangor and Terengganu with one each.

There are 1,324 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 81 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (104) followed by Kedah (51) and Sabah (48). - Mkini
