Family of fun fair ride victims to sue operator

The fun fair operator is being investigated for operating without a licence after two siblings fell from a ride.

SHAH ALAM: The family of two siblings injured after falling from a fun fair ride in Puncak Alam last night is considering legal action against the operator.

Noraziera Zulkiffle, 31, and her brother, Shahfaraz Aiefan Zulkiffle, 11, fell off the “Sotong Ride” while it was in motion and was taken to hospital.

The siblings’ mother Faizah Mat Sam, 52, told Sinar Harian that two police reports were lodged at the Jeram police station and Kuala Selangor police headquarters today.

“I am disappointed with what transpired, and we will take legal action,” she said when met at her home in Kampung Bukit Kuching, Jeram.

“My oldest (Noraziera) suffered a heavy blow to the head and her left leg is swollen, while my youngest son (Shahfaraz) injured his left leg and his eye,” she said.

Both were admitted to the Shah Alam Hospital and are expected to be discharged soon.

The family is still discussing their next course of action, including hiring a lawyer.

Noraziera’s 17-year-old sister, Nurazliyana, said she was also on the same ride with another sister, 15-year-old Nurazriyanie. The duo were seated behind Noraziera and her brother.

Nurazliyana said they were on the ride for less than a minute when the incident happened.

“I heard the sound of the safety iron snapping and I was shocked to see my sister and brother flung out of their seat,” she said.

“As soon as the ride came to a halt, I ran to them and heard my sister crying in pain.”

She said the two siblings were later taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Sinar Harian reported that a check with the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council revealed that the fun fair was not approved or licensed by the local authorities.

The council president Rahilah Rahmat was reported to have said that the operator applied for an entertainment licence several times but it was rejected as the applications were incomplete.

Kuala Selangor district police chief Ramli Kasa said the operator would be investigated for operating without a licence. - FMT
