SEREMBAN: The fire and rescue department rescued 45 students and staff trapped at the Giatmara building along Jalan Pantai, near Empangan Terip here, after it was hit by floods this evening.
Seremban fire and rescue station chief Mohammad Idris said the heavy rain since 3pm today caused floodwaters to rise to 0.6m in the area.
“A lorry was used to ferry all victims out of the area and they then returned to their respective homes,” he said.
Mohammad said flash floods also occurred at Kampung Mayor near here, affecting 12 people from one family.
He said the fire department received an emergency call for help at 3.50pm.
“The victims were five men and five women as well as a disabled man and a woman. All are now safe after being evacuated to a relief centre at the Dewan Orang Ramai Pantai,” he added. - FMT
