Flood: 3 sisters die of electrocution, TNB says don't speculate

Three sisters died after being electrocuted when their house in Kampung Morak in Tumpat, Kelantan, was flooded.

Tumpat Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Anuar Yacob said the incident, which occurred at about noon, was believed to involve a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) “service wire” passing through the awning of the house.

“One of the victims is believed to have been holding a house pillar when she was electrocuted, following which, the other victims were also electrocuted,” he added.

The sisters were aged 20, 25, and 27. One of them was a teacher with the Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti).

In a statement issued later, TNB advised the public not to spread videos or photographs related to the incident and to refrain from speculating on the matter.

TNB, which is also probing the incident, asked the public to give room for investigations to be conducted.

The firm reminded the public not to approach or touch electrical systems during floods because there could be electricity leakage.

“TNB will ensure that safety is prioritised, including by cutting off electricity supply to areas which are flooded. Power will be restored immediately when it is safe to do so,” it added.
