FT Ministry now under Prime Minister's Department

The Federal Territories Ministry - which oversees Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan - has been restructured to be one of the Prime Minister's Departments.

The Federal Territories Ministry was established 43 years ago, in 1979.

The switch to making the ministry “Federal Territories Department” was revealed by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Mohd Zuki Ali (above), in a Facebook post today.

Zuki said a briefing on the restructuring was presented to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim this morning.

The department's current top officer is its director-general Rosida Jaafar.

Meanwhile, the government has also re-established a council for MPs of the federal territories to have a say in matters.

Zuki said the Federal Territories Interactive Council would serve as a platform for MPs to discuss critical issues and suggest development policies for the people's wellbeing.

Pakatan Harapan had previously promised to give Kuala Lumpur residents more say in the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) - which previously was a body under the Federal Territories Ministry's purview.

However, the coalition stopped short of saying there would be local council elections for DBKL. - Mkini
