PETALING JAYA: A candidate in the recent general election (GE15) has been arrested to assist in an investigation into the alleged unlawful possession of a firearm.
It is understood that the suspect, who is in her late 20s, had contested for a seat in the federal territories.
Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the woman and a 41-year-old man, who is said to be her bodyguard, were arrested at 10.20pm yesterday.
A member of the public had lodged a police report after a video of a firearm training session at the Selangor shooting club was uploaded on social media.
The clip was uploaded on Instagram and Facebook via one of the suspect’s social media accounts, Ku Mashariman said. However, the video has since been taken down.
“The police also seized one Glock-19 pistol, one Glock-19 magazine, 12 bullets, one Selangor shooting club membership card, and a mobile phone,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Sections 8(A), 8(B), and 41 of the Firearms Act 1960, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Ku Mashariman said the duo would be remanded for four days until Dec 11 for investigation. - FMT
