Has Dr M’s 10-year shared prosperity vision been dropped?

PETALING JAYA: Has the government dropped the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV 2030) plan launched by Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was head of the Pakatan Harapan government in 2019?

The question arises because a circular from the Public Services Department (JPA) to all government departments and agencies early this month directs them to drop the use of Wawasan Kemakmuran Bersama 2030 (Shared Prosperity Vision 2030) in all its correspondence.

“The prime minister has agreed to drop the use of this phrase in all government correspondence with immediate effect.

“Only ‘Berkhidmat Untuk Negara’ (Service to the Nation), which has been in use since 1979, will be retained,” JPA said in the circular.

However, it is not known if the government is just dropping the use of the phrase in letters or abandoning SPV 2030 altogether.

In a 2021 circular, JPA had directed the addition of the SPV 2030 phrase in addition to the earlier one.

The blueprint for the SPV was officially released in 2020. It was a 10-year plan from 2021 to achieve sustainable growth.

It was to strengthen political stability, enhance the nation’s prosperity and ensure that the rakyat were united, while celebrating ethnic and cultural diversity as the foundation of the nation.
