PETALING JAYA: The police have arrested four students for allegedly beating up two schoolmates after a video of the incident went viral.
Kajang district police chief Zaid Hassan said the arrest was made following a police report made yesterday by a 16-year-old student who claimed that he and a schoolmate were beaten up by a group of students from the same school.
“All suspects have been detained and a remand application will be made at the Bandar Baru Bangi courts today. The police are still tracking down several individuals suspected to be involved in the case for investigation,” he said in a statement.
Zaid said the fight was due to a misunderstanding that occurred on Wednesday when one of the victims made a complaint over the payment for food and drinks at the school’s canteen during recess.
He added that the situation escalated after one of the suspects had allegedly asked his friends to seek revenge against the complainant.
Two videos of the fight between the students near the school had gone viral on Thursday and Friday respectively.
Zaid said checks on the complainant and the other victim found that both had suffered light injuries.
He added that the incident is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a punishment of up to two years imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction. - FMT
