MACC calls for information over RM600b govt funds

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called for relevant information, evidence or documents relating to the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion in funds by the previous government.

In a statement, it requested that individuals submit the information at their nearest MACC office.

“If necessary, MACC can also send officers to collect the information or documents,” it said.

Two days ago, Bernama reported that the MACC had opened an investigation paper on the alleged misappropriation.

Online portal The Vibes, quoting sources, later reported that the MACC is expected to call up former finance minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin as part of its probe.

This was after former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari raised the controversy over the usage of emergency funds totalling more than RM600 billion when the country was facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Finance Ministry had acknowledged several breaches involving the funds.

However former finance minister Tengku Zafrul said today said he has nothing to hide from the MACC but has yet to be contacted over any probe into the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion in government funds.

Muhyiddin has also denied the allegations of misappropriation and declared readiness to face any investigations.

“MACC will conduct a detailed, transparent and professional investigation from all angles related to this issue,” the anti-graft body said. - Mkini
