PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia (TM) has confirmed that it was hit by a data breach on Dec 28 affecting 250,248 customers.
In a statement, the telecommunications company said the affected customers had been notified of the matter.
“TM confirms that the breach has been contained and steps have been taken to minimise the potential impact to these 250,248 customers.”
TM added that it had reported the incident to the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre (NC4), the personal data protection department, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for further action.
It said additional security measures had been put in place to isolate the risk and protect its customers, and that users did not experience any service disruption.
TM also said it would continue to strengthen its security framework in order to protect its customers against such incidents in the future.
“We will continue to strengthen and ensure our data security framework, policies, systems and processes are continuously benchmarked against Bank Negara Malaysia’s risk management in technology standard and ISO27001, as well as other global standards to prevent such occurrences.” - FMT
