No gifts for me please, says PM

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reminded all parties not to give him gifts, saying “this culture must be stopped”.

“I appreciate the good intentions of all my brothers and sisters, but this is not in line with management and leadership ethics, and it burdens the people,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.

On Monday, Anwar cancelled an order for a Mercedes S600 limousine by the Prime Minister’s Department. He said the order was made by a previous prime minister, but did not specify who it was.

Last week, Anwar also reiterated an earlier pledge not to receive a salary as the prime minister.

While campaigning during the general election, he said he would not take a salary if appointed as prime minister in a show of solidarity with the people who were struggling with the rising cost of living. - FMT
