Selangor contributes RM1m for flood relief in Kelantan, Terengganu

 

The Selangor government will donate a total of RM1 million to flood-hit Kelantan and Terengganu.

In a statement today, Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari (above) said RM500,000 will be given to each state.

“In order to ease the burden of the disaster, the state government is ready to provide #KitaSelangor 2022 Flood Assistance contribution in the form of financial assistance to Kelantan and Terengganu, with a total of RM500,000 per state,” he said.

Amirudin added that the state’s Swift Action Task Force (Pantas) and Selangor Volunteer (Serve) were ready to provide assistance in the affected areas as soon as the situation permits.

There has been a sharp increase in the number of flood victims in Terengganu and Kelantan, with the east coast states expected to receive continuous heavy rain until tomorrow.

As of yesterday, the number of victims in Terengganu rose sharply to 11,415 people from 3,326 families, compared to 3,785 people from 1,068 families the night before.

Hulu Terengganu recorded the highest number of flood victims yesterday, with 3,998 people from 1,276 families, followed by Besut 3,765 people (1,040 families), Setiu 2,157 people (632 families), Kemaman 1,008 people (277 families), Marang 119 people (14 families), and Kuala Terengganu 13 people (three families).

In Kelantan, the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat informed that the number of evacuees increased to 8,645 compared to 5,642 people the night prior.

The victims were placed in 80 temporary evacuation centres in nine districts, namely Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Machang and Jeli.

Meanwhile, Gombak MP also announced the cancellation of the state’s new year's eve celebration out of respect for the victims and families affected by the Batang Kali landslide tragedy. - Mkini
