Toddler drowns in Kelantan floodwaters

PASIR MAS: A 15-month-old boy drowned after falling into floodwaters in Kampung Gual Tok Deh, Rantau Panjang here.

Rantau Panjang fire station chief Shapawi Stapa said the toddler was believed to have been playing with his elder sister on the porch of their house at about 1pm when the incident occurred.

In a statement, Shapawi said the station was alerted but local residents had found the body by the time firemen arrived at the scene.

The body was sent to Hospital Pasir Mas for a post-mortem, he added.

Meanwhile, it was also reported that three sisters died of electrocution in front of a flooded house in Kampung Bendang Surau near Morak this morning.

Kelantan police chief Zaki Harun said the victims, Noor Fathiah Nadzir, 27; Sakinah Nadzir, 29; and Nurul Syazwani Nadzir, 33, died at the scene of the incident at around 11.30am.

“All three victims were said to be wading through floodwaters in front of a house.

“One of the sisters slipped and grabbed a pillar and was electrocuted. Her sisters came to her aid but also succumbed to the same fate,” he said in a media conference at the Kelantan contingent police headquarters here.

He added that the sisters were brought to Hospital Tumpat for the post-mortem. - FMT
