SUNGAI BULOH: A man’s search for his missing daughter-in-law at the Batang Kali landslide yesterday morning has ended on a devastating note when it was confirmed that she had died in the tragedy.

The sad news was relayed to FMT by a volunteer who declined to be named. The volunteer said the next of kin of the woman, known only as Choo, was in the process of claiming her body from the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Choo arrived at the hospital’s forensic department at about 12pm today to identify the body.

Choo’s son was among 61 people who survived the landslide at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite near Genting Highlands, where he and his wife had gone camping.

He was being treated at Selayang Hospital, while his 60-year-old father went from hospital to hospital for news of his wife, aged 31.

“I’ve looked in every hospital (housing the landslide victims) but I’ve yet to find her,” a visibly tired and exasperated Choo told reporters when met at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“I went to Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital, Selayang Hospital, now I’m here (at Sungai Buloh Hospital) but I still can’t find her,” he said. Choo said he was continuing his search while staying hopeful of his daughter-in-law’s safe return.

So far, 24 people have died in the tragedy, with nine others still missing. Search and rescue operations will continue through the night at the site near the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands road. - FMT
