Umno supreme council sacks Annuar Musa, two other divisional leaders

Ketereh Umno division chief Annuar Musa, who is a former communications and multimedia minister, has been sacked from the party.

Malaysiakini learned that he is among three party divisional leaders that Umno Supreme Council decided to sack in a meeting last night.

“Three people – two women’s division chiefs and one division chief – for disparaging the party and campaigning (for an opposing party), are sacked,” Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi said last night.

While Puad (above) declined to reveal their identities, two other Umno Supreme Council members who spoke on condition of anonymity had confirmed to Malaysiakini that Annuar was one of those sacked.

Asked about the call to investigate the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion under the previous Perikatan Nasional-led government, Puad said the supreme council is leaving it to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s discretion.

On another matter, Puad said the council has also agreed that the government should expedite the Royal Commissions of Inquiry to investigate former attorney-general Tommy Thomas and Tabung Haji.

The proposed RCI on Thomas is in regard to his book ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness’.

“We discussed pursuing the RCI against Thomas and Tabung Haji, and the taking of action against the former Bank Negara governor, Zeti Akhtar Aziz,” Puad told reporters after the meeting of the party supreme council at Umno’s headquarters.

The meeting was chaired by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the deputy prime minister.

The RCI on Tabung Haji was established on Jan 21 to investigate the fund’s management and operations from 2014 to 2020. It was supposed to present a report on its findings to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong within six months.

Umno has also been clamouring for an RCI to be set up to investigate revelations contained in Thomas’ memoir which, among others, alleged attempts to interfere in court proceedings. - Mkini
