PETALING JAYA: Water supply recovery in areas affected by unscheduled disruptions following odour pollution at the Jenderam raw filter pump station has reached 55% as of 6am today.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said the duration of the water supply recovery will vary depending on the location and distance of the users’ premises.

“Air Selangor also hopes that consumers who have received water supply will use water prudently to ensure that the recovery process runs smoothly as scheduled,” it said in a statement.

On Saturday, water supply to 472 areas in Selangor was disrupted because of odour pollution at the Jenderam Hilir raw water pump station caused by a liquid spill following an accident involving a 20-tonne container lorry carrying perfume essence.

The crash occurred at Km44.1 northbound of the North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite) near Bandar Serenia, Negeri Sembilan.

The crash site was 6.4km from the Sungai Semenyih treatment plant and 18km from the Bukit Tampoi plant, which had to be temporarily shut down.

The affected areas were in the Petaling district (172), Hulu Langat (54), Sepang (196), Kuala Langat (27) and Putrajaya (23).

Both the Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants resumed operations yesterday.

Air Selangor said it expected all the affected areas to receive full supply by 2pm today. However, this will depend on the distance from the plants to the affected areas and also the water pressure. - FMT
