Solicitor-general Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh has been appointed attorney-general (AG) effective Sept 6.
In a brief statement today, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said in accordance with Clause (1) Article 145 of the Federal Constitution, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the appointment of Ahmad Terrirudin (above) as AG.
"He will be replacing Idrus Harun whose contract expires on Sept 5.
"The government thanks Idrus for his service to the state during his tenure as AG," said Zuki.
Ahmad Terrirudin, 54, is reportedly the first candidate to come directly from the Judicial and Legal Service since former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, who was appointed to the office in 2002.
Gani served until 2015 when he was replaced by Mohd Apandi Ali. The latter was replaced by Tommy Thomas following the 2018 general elections.
Ahmad Terrirudin served as the Federal Court’s chief registrar prior to his appointment as solicitor-general in March 2022. - Mkini
