PKR MP urges Anwar, Saifuddin to act following latest petrol bomb attack

A PKR MP has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to take immediate executive action to ease the escalating situation surrounding the controversial socks bearing the word “Allah”.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said this is in light of the second firebomb attack at another KK Mart outlet in Kuantan, Pahang, early this morning.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has spoken. The Perak sultan has voiced out and so has the inspector-general of police.

“They have all advised for racial and religious tensions to be eased,” Hassan (above) said in a statement today.

“The rakyat now want the prime minister and home minister to take executive action based on the law so that the people are safe and our country Malaysia does not fall back into the destruction of racial and ethnic divisions. Please act before it’s too late,” said Hassan.

‘Refrain from violence’

Meanwhile, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan also expressed concern following the second attack against KK Mart.

"Yes, we Muslims are hurt by the socks with the word Allah issue.

"Legal action has been taken, we must believe in the rule of law," the DAP leader said in a statement on Facebook today.

He further urged Malaysians to refrain from violence and preserve harmony.

"Let's not burn the country down with flames of hatred."

A petrol bomb was first thrown at a KK Mart outlet in Bidor, Perak on March 26.

Fortunately, it did not ignite, and no one was injured.

Aside from the firebomb attempts, KK Mart also became the subject of boycott calls from Umno Youth.

Also on March 26, KK Mart founder Chai Kee Kan and his wife Loh Siew Mui, both directors of the company, were charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with deliberately hurting religious feelings.

Both claimed trial to the charge. - Mkini
