Investigations still ongoing into alleged misconduct by ministry sec-gen

The government has confirmed that investigations into allegations of misconduct involving a ministry’s secretary-general, which surfaced online last November, are still ongoing.

The Office of the Director-General of Public Service said no further comments could be made, as the matter remains under investigation.

“This is subject to the provisions of the prevailing regulations, including Regulation 19 of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, and may only be disclosed through authorised channels,” the office told Malaysiakini.

Checks revealed that the ministry in question appointed a new secretary-general on Nov 24 last year.

Public attention was first drawn after an 11-second video clip went viral, alleging that a secretary-general had been detained by religious authorities in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for suspected khalwat (close proximity).

On Nov 9, Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar confirmed that a senior officer at the ministry had been placed on immediate leave to facilitate investigations.

“I have taken note of a case involving allegations of misconduct against a top management officer at a ministry. Therefore, the officer will be placed on immediate leave while investigations commence without delay,” Shamsul said.

He added that if the officer is found guilty, disciplinary action will be taken under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993. - Mkini
