The joint police-MCMC operation also uncovered 540,127 files containing child sexual abuse material and 113,066 adult pornography files.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the eight children – some of whom were found to have produced animated sexual content for sale online – comprised seven boys and a girl.
“They would meet with groups that share the same interests and inclinations, and their ‘circle’ comprises groups involved in such activities,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman federal police headquarters.
Kumar said the content was sold to the public through online communities, with payments made through various methods, including e-wallets and PayPal.
He said the joint operation by the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) targeted 92 locations, with 52 raids resulting in 53 arrests comprising 51 men and two women. He said 52 of the 53 people arrested were Malaysians, while one was a Bangladeshi national.
No suspects were found at the remaining 40 locations raided under Ops Pedo.
Police also found 540,127 files containing child sexual abuse material and 113,066 adult pornography files during the operation. The suspects were found to have accessed the material from open sources as well as the dark web.
“A total of 52 investigation papers were opened and, as of Sept 21, 23 had been charged in court, while the remaining 29 are still under investigation,” he said.
He said two civil servants, a teacher and a school laboratory assistant, were among those arrested. However, he said they had no connection to the eight children arrested in the operation. - FMT
