Sarawak stays hazy with 10 areas heading API readings

 Forty-five locations nationwide experience moderate air quality, while five are in the 'good' category.

Most parts of Sarawak remained hazy today, with 10 areas in the state among 16 nationwide with “unhealthy” air pollutant index (API) readings.

Occupying the top seven spots with unhealthy air quality as of 6pm were Kapit (173), Sibu (165), Sri Aman (164), IPD Serian (161), Bintulu (160), Kuching (159) and Samalaju (158).

This was followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (156), Samarahan, Sarawak (156), Putrajaya (154), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (153), Mukah, Sarawak (153), Shah Alam, Selangor (151),

Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (151), Miri, Sarawak (148) and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (124).

Forty-five locations recorded “moderate” API readings, including Johan Setia, Banting, Petaling Jaya and Klang, all in Selangor, with API readings of 99, 94, 93 and 86, respectively.

Five locations reported “good” API readings – Seri Manjung, Perak (49), Minden and Balik Pulau, Penang (45 and 33, respectively), Langkawi, Kedah (42) and Besut, Terengganu (38).

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and 300 and above, hazardous. - FMT
