JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 20 — A video posted on social media showing a car being driven against traffic on Jalan Jim Quee here has been traced to an Audi driver who is believed to have fallen asleep after finishing work.

The incident took place at about 6.50am on September 18 and involves a Malaysian man who works as a restaurant waiter at R&F Mall, South Johor Bahru district deputy police chief Superintendent Ng Swie Chait said in a Facebook statement today.

According to Ng, the man was driving an Audi home to Taman Mount Austin after finishing his shift that day.

Upon arriving at the Tanjung Puteri traffic-light intersection, he fell asleep inside the vehicle.

A police officer nearby saw that the car was not moving and approaching, knocked on the window to get the driver’s attention.

The knock woke the driver, Ng related, adding that the former then slowly moved the car forward into traffic.

But possibly disoriented, the Audi driver was travelling against the flow of traffic towards Jalan Jim Quee.

Officers nearby then tested the driver for alcohol consumption, using an SD2+ breathalyser, which came back negative.

Ng said the case is being investigated under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for disobeying traffic signals. - malaymail
