DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook yesterday said he would resign as transport minister following the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Najib Razak.
He said he has not received any written confirmation about the matter from the DAP secretary-general, who yesterday announced his resignation from the Cabinet following the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Najib Razak.
The PKR president said it would be better for him to meet Loke first and hear his views before commenting further on the matter.
“Not yet. He hasn’t (submitted it). He informed me about it yesterday. He will bring the letter and he wants to discuss it with me,” Anwar told reporters after attending a PKR event here.
“I haven’t had the opportunity to discuss anything yet. I need to meet him first and hear his views.
“Loke has his principles. From the beginning, he opposed anything that could give the impression that (the government) is weak or lenient towards corruption,” Anwar said.
FMT has reached out to Loke’s aide for details of the Shanghai trip.
DAP’s central executive committee met for three hours yesterday evening to discuss the conditional pardon granted to Najib, after which Loke said he would resign over the matter.
Loke maintained that DAP’s decision that only he should step down was a “responsible one”, and he said his resignation, if accepted by Anwar, would not jeopardise the transport ministry’s operations.
However, he said he would need some time to manage outstanding matters within the ministry before officially stepping down from the post. - FMT
