Women shuttlers power into quarter-finals of Asian Games

PETALING JAYA:

The women’s badminton team powered past Hong Kong 3-0 in the Asian Games team event to book their place in the quarter-finals.

The national women’s team will face South Korea, who received a first-round bye, in the last eight.

South Korea will be led by world women’s singles champion An Se Young and has several other formidable players in its ranks.

Singles player K Letshanaa gave Malaysia a flying start in today’s opening match, beating Happy Lo 21-9, 21-16 in 35 minutes.

National women’s top doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah then made it 2-0, defeating Hong Kong’s top pair Yeung Nga Ting-Yeung Pui Lam 21-11, 21-17.

Second singles player Wong Ling Ching sealed the tie for Malaysia by beating Liang Ko Wing 21-17, 21-14 to give the national team an unassailable 3-0 lead. - FMT
