DAP CEC deputy secretary-general Hannah Yeoh said the committee’s meeting last Saturday heard various proposals and views before this decision was made, Bernama reported.
“The final decision of the CEC – this is the highest decision-making body – was that Loke would offer to resign.
“I do not want to disclose the other discussions that were part of the CEC deliberations, but we have to respect the decision made by the committee,” she said after attending the 2026 Deepavali Bazaar in Putrajaya today.
Yesterday, lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla said DAP’s decision that only Loke should resign from the Cabinet over Najib’s conditional pardon is inconsistent with the views previously expressed by its leaders.
He said all DAP members of the Cabinet should resign if the party was truly sincere about its stance on the matter. Their resignation would not amount to a withdrawal of support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as DAP’s MPs could still back him in Parliament, he added.
On Saturday, Loke said he would resign as transport minister, but DAP would remain in the government and its other ministers would stay in the Cabinet.
Haniff had also singled out housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, saying he should have been among the first to resign given his earlier public remarks on Najib’s pardon.
Nga had vowed to resign if Najib was released from prison in response to Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh urging him to “fulfil his promise” to step down.
Oriental Daily had quoted an unnamed DAP leader as saying that Nga offered to resign during DAP’s CEC meeting but was persuaded by Loke to remain in the Cabinet. - FMT
