PETALING JAYA: Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) service providers are updating their systems to recognise the new-generation MyKad after some cardholders faced difficulties completing identity verification.
The National Registration Department said it was aware of the problems and had been working with relevant agencies and eKYC service providers to address them.
“Currently, eKYC service providers are updating their respective systems to enable the design and features of the new-generation MyKad to be recognised during the verification process,” it said in a statement on Monday (Sept 21).
The department said it had provided the necessary information to service providers and was monitoring the updates to speed up the system adjustment process.
Those who encounter difficulties using the new MyKad for eKYC verification are advised to check with the relevant institution or service provider for alternative verification methods while the updates are being completed.
Officially issued last Thursday, the new-generation MyKad features improvements in its structure, design, technology and security for better identity protection.
The department said the eKYC system adjustments formed part of the transition to support use of the new card.
It said it would continue monitoring the updates and working with agencies and service providers until the necessary adjustments were completed.
“Our priority is to ensure that the transition to the new-generation MyKad is carried out smoothly without affecting the public’s access to services that require identity verification,” it said.
