Heavy rain brings flash floods in Tanah Rata

 State assemblyman Ho Chi Yang says there were no reports so far of injuries or damage to public facilities.

PETALING JAYA:

Several areas in Tanah Rata were hit by flash floods following almost three hours of heavy rain this afternoon, with several houses affected.

Tanah Rata assemblyman Ho Chi Yang said flooding was reported at the Golden Hills housing estate and near the Mardi agro technology park.

He said there were no reports so far of injuries or damage to public facilities. “About five to six houses were affected. Some of their sofas and furniture were damaged,” he said.

Ho said the flooding could have been caused by a nearby river and clogged drainage systems, particularly in the area around Golden Hills. The flooding was more severe than an incident there about two years ago.

A minor landslide was also reported along Jalan Tengkolok, although there were no reports of injuries. Ho said the road was not frequently used.

Ho said he would discuss possible assistance for the affected families with local authorities and look into measures to ensure rivers and drains in the area were not clogged. -- FMT
