Bersatu's ex-minister laments party's direction, to make major announcement

Former minister Mohd Redzuan Mohd Yusof, one of the early members of Bersatu, has lamented that his party "has changed".

Redzuan (above) revealed that he will be making an announcement next month but dismissed suggestions that he will be switching parties.

"Wait for part two, if you wait for November, I will put on a baju Melayu but what colour the sampin will be, I will make an announcement later on," he was quoted as saying by Melaka Hari Ini, the state government's official media.

Redzuan, better known as Pak Wan, had previously criticised the Muhyiddin Yassin government's management of the Covid-19 pandemic when he was the minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of special functions.

Muhyiddin is the Bersatu president. He was dropped as a minister when Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob took over as the new prime minister.

"Many asked Pak Wan should be someone who champions change and struggle but I can't say those things anymore because Bersatu's face has changed.

"Many asked why people who only joined Bersatu later are the ones being put forward - I don't know.

"The dynamics of Bersatu could be different... I don't know because I am not involved, even in the coordination of the Malacca polls," he was quoted as saying.

Malacca is set to go to the polls on Nov 20 after the Umno-Bersatu state government collapsed. The nomination day is on Nov 8.

Not involved

Redzuan said he will be making his announcement after nomination day, which will be during the Malacca polls campaign period.

He was formerly the Malacca Bersatu chief but faced resistance from grassroots members over his leadership style.

The reins were subsequently passed to Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen.

Since then, Redzuan said he had little knowledge of what was going on in Malacca Bersatu.

"I am was not involved in the management, I was not even called even though I am an ex-officio in Alor Gajah Bersatu and its treasurer but I was not involved.

"To say that I am not slighted would be a lie," he added.

Redzuan, who is the Alor Gajah MP, said he remained consistent with the original roots of Bersatu.

"I question where Bersatu is heading because, in my head, the previous Bersatu was Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin, and Mukhriz Mahathir," he said.

Bersatu had sacked Mahathir and Mukhriz after they opposed Muhyiddin's effort to form an alliance with Umno.

Mahathir and Mukhriz have since formed Pejuang.

Redzuan was previously speculated to have considered joining Mahathir's group after the latter was sacked but eventually did not follow through.  - Mkini

Najib: Harapan admitted role in fall of Malacca govt, don't blame Umno

Umno should not be blamed for the fall of the Malacca government as Pakatan Harapan had admitted to playing a role in the incident, said former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Najib (above), who is Pekan MP, said this in response to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim who stated that the opposition had met with the four government assemblypersons prior to their decision to withdraw support for the state government.

Anwar had said that the rebel assemblypersons at the time had agreed to support a Harapan-led state government.

"There's you. The meeting and agreement were made before four assemblypersons withdrew their support.

"It was Harapan's official admission that they conspired to bring down the Malacca government that sparked the state election.

"So, don't blame Umno anymore," Najib said in a statement on Facebook.

The four state lawmakers were led by Umno's Sungai Udang assemblyperson Idris Haron, who had since been sacked from his party.

The fall of the Malacca government was preceded by growing tensions between Idris and Umno Malacca chief Ab Rauf Yusoh who the former claimed was controlling then Malacca Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali. Ab Rauf denied this.

Idris and three other assemblypersons on Oct 4 announced they were withdrawing support for Sulaiman's government, costing the Umno-Bersatu government its majority.

The other three were Umno's Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Bersatu's Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) and independent Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu), who was formerly from DAP. Nor Azman and Noor Effandi have been sacked from their parties.

Idris had expected to form the new government by cooperating with Harapan but was outmanoeuvred when Sulaiman sought a dissolution of the state assembly.

Fresh polls will take place on Nov 20 with nomination day on Nov 8.

'Umno was firm and swift in sacking them'

Meanwhile, Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan said the party was not infallible but Harapan should not present itself as "pure".

Shahril said there was nothing wrong with Anwar meeting with Umno rebels but added that the heroes' treatment accorded to them appeared that they were cooperating with toppling the state government.

"Umno was firm and swift in sacking them. Whatever Umno's weaknesses were, no one can deny that our party took clear action within 24 hours," he said.

Shahril questioned if Harapan will be fielding those who had brought down the Malacca government as election candidates.

He urged Malaccans to carefully consider what had happened and who had taken advantage of the situation. - Mkini

Telcos must provide services as promised or face fines - minister

Telecommunication companies will be fined if they fail to provide services as promised to consumers, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa.

He said the laws under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) require each telco to implement the minimum standards that had been set.

He said if they do not meet the minimum standards, the MCMC has the authority to issue a warning to the company involved, including imposing a fine.

"In fact, MCMC now often goes down to the ground to look into the people's problems and grievances, either through information or complaints received directly or indirectly, including those which go viral on social media,” Annuar (above) said.

He told reporters this after the launching of the Learning From Home for Higher Educational Institute Programme at the Kota Bharu Polytechnic (PKB) in Kok Lanas, Kelantan today.

The launch was also attended by YTL Communications CEO Wing K Lee and PKB director Rosli Idris.

Elaborating, Annuar said his ministry also created the National Digital Network (Jendela) Map portal as a platform for people to lodge complaints regarding coverage, broadband speed, and others.

“In order to obtain quick information on which areas are affected, we have created the Jendela Map portal where the MCMC can conduct daily monitoring and follow-up action, including repair works.

“We have also supplied equipment to all MCMC (branches) nationwide to carry out reviews and random measurement of the broadband speed of telcos.

“At least this will make sure they are constantly on their toes and ready to improve their quality of service,” he said.

He added that his ministry took a serious view of the matter since coverage involving telcos, including broadband, was a necessity for all levels of society.

He said the matter, including an act on telco services, will be tabled in Parliament for the improvement and tightening of existing laws so they could be implemented more effectively.

“We do not want this matter to escape our attention. In fact, so far, some telcos have been fined.

“To improve telco services, including the quality of broadband services, we need to create a conducive ecosystem and get the cooperation of all parties,” he added.

SUNDAY JOKES - 79

There was a job opening in the country's most prestigious law firm and it finally comes down to Robert and Paul.
Both graduated magna cum laude from law school. Both come from good families. Both are equally attractive and well-spoken. It's up to the senior partner to choose one, so he takes each aside and asks, "Why did you become a lawyer?"
In seconds, he chooses Paul.
Baffled, Robert takes Paul aside.
"I don't understand why I was rejected. When Mr. Armstrong asked me why I became a lawyer, I said that I had the greatest respect for the law, that I'd lay down my life for the Constitution, and that all I wanted was to do right by my clients. What in the world did you tell him?"
"I said I became a lawyer because of my hands," Robert replies.
"Your hands? What do you mean?"
"Well, I took a look one day and there wasn't any money in either of them!"

It was the middle of the night. Suddenly there was a loud rapping on the doctor’s door, followed by a groan.

The doctor angrily thrust his head out of the window. “WELL?” he shouted.
“No,” moaned the man. “SICK!”

A wealthy man died and went to heaven. He was met at the Pearly Gates by Saint Peter who led him down the streets of gold. They passed mansion after mansion until they came to the very end of the street. Saint Peter stopped the rich man in front of a little shack. "This belongs to you,” said Saint Peter. "Why do I get this ugly thing when there are so many mansions I could live in?” the man demanded. "We did the best we could with the money you sent us!” Saint Peter replied.

Q: What was the name of the film about a killer lion that swam underwater?
A: 'Claws!'

Son: Mom, when I was on the bus with Dad this morning, he told me to give up my seat to a lady.
Mom: Well, you have done the right thing.
Son: But Mom, I was sitting on Daddy's lap!
