Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and the state Umno liaison committee secretary Yahya Hussin said today it was hoped that the Putatan parliamentary seat would be allotted to Umno to contest in the next general election.
Yahya, who is head of the Putatan Umno division, said he was merely expressing the wishes of the party members, taking into account the current political scenario in the country.
"It is important for Putatan Umno members to be united so that the party is seen as the most suitable to contest the seat in the next general election," he said when opening the Putatan Umno division delegates meeting at Wisma Pertanian near here.
Nevertheless, Yahya said, the Putatan Umno division would abide by any decision of the BN leadership in the matter.
The Putatan seat was won by Makin alias Marcus Majigoh of Pertubuhan Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Bersatu (Upko) in the last general election.
