JUST SEE HOW IBRAHIM ALI OR DR MAHATHIR ARE TWISTING THE FACTS, FOR THEIR OWN POLITICAL MILEAGE?
KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysian Insider) - Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali upped the ante against Malay political parties today, saying Umno’s move to distance itself from the group marked the end of Malay dominance in the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Ibrahim hinted that BN would turn into another Pakatan Rakyat (PR) where he claimed that the Malay dominated parties, PAS and PKR are under DAP control.
“DAP has been fooling PAS and PKR. Now MCA and Gerakan are fooling Umno,” said the Pasir Mas MP in a statement.
“Soi Lek and MCA have said that it is not wrong for MCA to work with DAP on issues affecting the Chinese community. Umno leaders must be very smart to distance itself from Umno,” said Ibrahim, referring to MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek that the party was not afraid to be in agreement with DAP on Chinese issues.
The independent MP also slammed MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha for continuously blaming Perkasa for its failure to regain the Chinese support.
Ibrahim reiterated his stand that MCA has been losing its popularity among the Chinese because of the failure of its leaders and not because of Perkasa.
Yesterday Kong said that having ties with Perkasa will not help the ruling coalition to win public support.
The housing and local government minister also described Perkasa as an extremist and xenophobic group.
“Has he condemned the Chinese demand for an end to Bumiputera quotas as being racist or unconstitutional?” asked Ibrahim claiming that Chinese groups such as Dong Zhong and Hua Zhong have been making racist demands but did attract as much attention as Perkasa.
“Perkasa fights for and defend Malay and Bumiputera rights as enshrined in the Constitution. We have also said that the non-Malay interests as mentioned in the Constitution should also be protected.
So, what’s extremist or racist about that?” said Ibrahim.
“I take care of the Chinese in my constituency. I organise functions and present aid to needy Chinese in the constituency from time to time,” he added.
Umno leaders have started distancing themselves from Perkasa since last week with party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor declaring that BN would field a candidate in Pasir Mas to challenge Ibrahim.
Tengku Adnan claimed that Malay rights group’s actions have eroded the support of non-Malays for the ruling coalition.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz also joined the attack against Perkasa, claiming that group is made up of only Umno leaders who have been rejected by the party.
Perkasa, however, continues to enjoy the support of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who said that Umno needs Perkasa’s support.
Umno-owned daily, Utusan Malaysia, has also been publicly supporting Perkasa with editorials and news reports favouring the group.
Ibrahim founded Perkasa soon after Election 2008 to defend what he calls the constitutional rights of the Malays.
The group, which claims to have successfully attracted more than 300,000 members, nationwide has been pressuring the Najib Administration to state its support for pro-Bumiputera economic policy, despite the government’s attempt to liberalise the country’s economy.
Recently, Ibrahim challenged Datuk Seri Najib Razak to declare that his 1 Malaysia concept— introduced to promote national unity — is consistent with the concept of “Ketuanan Melayu” (Malay supremacy), which Ibrahim claims to be enshrined in the Constitution.
