Kelantan Regent Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra has been proclaimed the 29th Sultan of Kelantan.
The announcement was made by Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat at 12.30pm at Istana Balai Besar here.
Nik Aziz said the decison was made by the state royal succession council members at 9am.
Sultan Muhammad Faris Petra is replacing his father Sultan Ismail Petra who suffered a stroke on May 14, 2009.
As early as 8am, state officials, state royal succession council members, state assemblymen and Members of Parliament and government officials gathered at Kota Darul Naim complex to attend a 11am briefing.
By 11.30am all headed for Istana Balai Besar to attend the official proclamation of Muhammad Faris Petra as the new Sultan.
